Craft: A Pastel Table for Ostara
Ostara marks the gentle height of early Spring — a moment of balance, renewal and soft returning light in the Celtic Wheel of the Year. Creating a pastel Spring tablescape becomes a small seasonal ritual: a way to honour new beginnings, welcome brightness and bring the outdoors into your home in a delicate, joyful way.
This project is simple, soothing and perfect for celebrating Ostara alone or with loved ones.
Materials
A pastel tablecloth or runner (soft pink, buttercream, pale lilac or warm white)
Fresh Spring flowers: daffodils, blossom branches, early tulips or narcissi
(A bouquet from PYRUS is ideal if local to you)
Small bud vases or jars
Beeswax taper candles in Spring tones (pale yellow, soft pink, cream)
Brass, glass or mismatched candle holders
Simple crockery in whites or muted pastels
Linen napkins (pastel or neutral)
Ribbon, twine or fabric strips for tying napkins
Optional: a few seasonal decorations such as painted eggs or pressed flowers
Method
Lay a soft Spring base. Start by spreading a pastel tablecloth or runner: something with a gentle, calming tone that echoes early Spring light. Pale pinks, buttery yellows or soft lilacs work beautifully.
Arrange your seasonal flowers. Choose a few stems of daffodil, blossom or other early Spring flowers. Place them in small bud vases or jars spaced loosely along the centre of the table. Let the flowers feel airy and natural, nothing too structured. Blossom branches add height; daffodils add cheerfulness.
Add pastel candlelight. Set beeswax or taper candles in brass or glass holders. Soft yellows, pinks and creams create a warm, glowing palette that feels deeply tied to Ostara. Scatter a few tealights if you want more sparkle.
Create gentle place settings. Use simple crockery in white or muted pastels. Fold linen napkins neatly and tie them with ribbon or twine for a handcrafted touch. You can tuck in a sprig of blossom, a small flower or even a painted egg to celebrate the season’s themes of renewal and new life.
Add small seasonal details. Decorate lightly with a few Spring elements: painted eggs, tiny bowls of seasonal fruit, or pastel ceramics. Keep the look uncluttered and fresh, allowing the palette and flowers to speak for themselves.
Light the candles and welcome the season. As dusk approaches, light the candles to honour Ostara’s returning brightness. This simple act transforms your table into a space of celebration, renewal and the soft magic of early Spring.
