Slow Seasons: A Creative Guide to Reconnecting with Nature the Celtic Way
In my late twenties, feeling overwhelmed by the pace of modern city life, I began reconnecting with the seasonal traditions I grew up with: ones deeply rooted in my Scottish heritage. These rituals, guided by the Celtic Wheel of the Year, celebrate nature and the gentle shifts that mark each season.
The Wheel follows the solar cycle—the solstices, equinoxes and their midpoints—offering a rhythm that feels grounding and restorative. For each of the eight mini-seasons, I share nature notes on what to look for outdoors, seasonal recipes, things to make or forage and ideas for small celebrations that bring light and meaning to everyday life.
As the Wheel turns towards Imbolc on 1st February, for instance, I make hand-poured candles to welcome the return of the light, embrace winter walks with a flask of hot chocolate and fill my home with the scent of citrus as I make batches of marmalade.
By slowing down and noticing the natural rhythms around us, I’ve found moments of calm and connection, and I hope this book helps you do the same.
